A recent study reveals that smoking, physical activity, and socioeconomic status are the top factors influencing aging and mortality, outweighing genetic predispositions. Researchers analyzed data from nearly half a million participants and identified 25 lifestyle and environmental factors that impact biological aging, with smoking alone linked to 21 diseases. The study found that environmental factors, such as housing and physical activity, explained 17% of the variation in death risk, compared to less than 2% from genetics. This highlights the power of lifestyle changes and improved living conditions in reducing early mortality and promoting healthier aging.
