Popular sweetener may increase weight gain by boosting hunger

A new study suggests that sucralose, a popular non-caloric sweetener, may increase hunger and promote overeating. Researchers from the University of Southern California used MRI scans to observe brain activity in healthy young adults after consuming sucralose, sucrose (sugar), or water. They found that sucralose led to stronger hunger signals in the brain, particularly in people of healthy weight. The study highlights that while sucralose doesn't provide calories, it may interfere with the body’s natural appetite regulation, potentially making people hungrier and more prone to overeating. These findings are especially relevant for those using sucralose to cut calories, as it could have the opposite effect by increasing food intake.

Healthy Fact of the Day: Taking a warm bath can help relax your muscles, reduce stress, and improve sleep quality. The soothing effect of warm water helps promote blood circulation, ease tension, and calm the mind. Adding essential oils like lavender or Epsom salts can enhance the relaxation experience and provide additional health benefits, such as reducing inflammation and promoting deeper rest.
