A new study suggests that weight training may help protect the brain from dementia by improving cognitive function and preventing brain atrophy. Researchers found that older adults who engaged in moderate-to-high-intensity weight training experienced better memory, stronger neurons, and improved brain areas associated with Alzheimer’s disease, compared to those who did not exercise. The study also revealed that some participants with mild cognitive impairment no longer showed signs of the condition after six months of weight training. This study highlights the potential of resistance training in preventing dementia and improving brain health, especially for older adults at risk.
